Derek Robertson is a seasoned hair and makeup artist with over two decades of experience spanning fashion, theater, film, television, and commercial production. His career began in the world of theater, where he built a strong foundation in character-driven design and technical artistry. Derek has since had the privilege of leading hair and makeup departments for both regional theater and Broadway productions, designing for an extensive range of shows including The Threepenny Opera, The Whale (World Premiere), Tarzan (U.S. World Premiere), The Cunning Vixen, Gianni Schicchi, 42nd Street, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Rocky Horror Show, Clue: The Musical, Bad Things for Good Reasons, The Servant of Two Masters, and Secret in the Wings.

After relocating to New York City, Derek became immersed in the fashion industry, collaborating with leading photographers, designers, and creative teams. His editorial work has appeared in prominent publications such as Nylon, Teen Vogue, and Marie Claire. He continues to work with a wide range of brands on catalog shoots and marketing campaigns, bringing a polished, fashion-forward sensibility to every project.

In parallel, Derek has developed a strong presence in the commercial and film space, creating looks for both regional and national advertising campaigns. His client list includes Energizer, Enterprise, Purina, Netflix, and multiple major liquor brands. In 2025, he was part of the creative team behind Mercy Hospital’s “No One Likes to Wait” commercial, which earned a Regional Emmy Award. Most recently, Derek served as Hair and Makeup Department Head for the feature film Chasing Summer, slated for release in 2026.
